The Woodlands Villages

The Village of Grogan’s Mill

Nestled within towering trees and situated along winding cul-de-sacs, the homes in The Woodlands’ original Village of Grogan’s Mill have the distinction of being part of the “Historic District.” The scenic Millbend Loop is a great place for a morning walk or jog and The Woodlands Resort & Conference Center is a regional attraction with its “Forest Oasis Waterscape.” Two golf courses, The Oaks daily fee course and The East Course, part of The Woodlands Country Club, are located in Grogan’s Mill.

Bordering Lake Harrison is the Grogan’s Mill Village Center, featuring a Randalls supermarket, several restaurants including Chef Chan’s Chinese, Fuddrucker’s and Becks Prime, along with shops and neighborhood services.

The Forest Oasis Waterscape™ at The Woodlands Resort & Conference Center features a double helix water slide, and separate swimming areas for children and adults with the adjoining “Blue Water Café” and other attractions. The Waterscape is surrounded by Fairway Pines, an enclave of deluxe guestrooms at The Resort.

Village Facts

Grogan’s Mill was the first Village established in The Woodlands and was named after the original Grogan’s Lumber Company Mill, that was once located on the property. The community opened in October of 1974 with a celebratory flag raising, and featured a guest appearance by none other than William Shatner, who starred as Captain Kirk in Star Trek. There are over 5000 homes and 12,000+ residents who call Grogan’s Mill home. This village features the Woodlands Resort and Conference Center, and the town’s two public golf courses, the Oaks Course and the Panther Trail Course.

The Village of Alden Bridge

Spanning a large area with a unique character, Alden Bridge features abundant forests and parks, family homes, two village shopping centers, many outstanding schools and convenient access to Montgomery College and the University Center.

Alden Bridge features large swimming pools and water fun parks plus other features like a jogging track circling a pond and a butterfly garden. Scenic Lakeside Park overlooks Bear Branch Reservoir. There are also several smaller parks and tot lots close to homes and neighborhoods.

The Village of Cochran’s Crossing

This expansive, established village is the home of The Woodlands Country Club and the 27-hole Palmer golf course. Exemplary schools, several large parks, and a village shopping center make Cochran’s Crossing a very centralized and convenient location for family living. Cochran’s Crossing was founded in 1983 and named after the Cochran family in Montgomery County that once co-owned the Grogan-Cochran Lumber Company and much of the timbering land that became The Woodlands.

The warm, comfortable Craftsman-style Palmer Clubhouse, home of The Woodlands Country Club, is located on Grand Fairway Drive in Cochran’s Crossing. For more information, visit www.thewoodlandscc.com.  Nature enthusiasts and students of nature will appreciate the Shadowlake Marsh Experience in Cochran’s Crossing, located across Lake Woodlands Drive from Shadowbend Park. The original YMCA branch in The Woodlands is located on Shadowbend Place.

Cochran’s Crossing Village Center features a Kroger Signature store, CVS Drug Store, Skeeter’s and Alamo Joe’s restaurants, plus professional offices, neighborhood services, banks, shops and fast food eateries.

Village Facts

The Village of Cochran’s Crossing got its name from the Cochran Family, who were the founders of the Grogan and Cochran Lumber mills. Cochran’s Crossing hosts several community events through out the year, including the Wildflower Festival every fall. This Village is also the home of the original Woodlands High School and the Woodlands Country Club’s Arnold Palmer golf course. 16,000 people are proud to call Cochran’s Crossing home and there are over 5000 homes, and a wide variety of style, including several of the area’s best custom builders.

Carlton Woods Creekside

The eighth village of The Woodlands is now in development, scheduled to open in early 2007. Plans for Creekside Park call for it to be the most “parklike” of all the villages, with abundant green spaces, ponds and opportunities for outdoor recreation. The most outstanding feature of Creekside Park will be 1,700-acre Creekside Park, featuring seven miles of frontage along Spring Creek. Larger than Memorial and Hermann Parks combined, Creekside Park is part of the Spring Creek Greenway Project, a joint project of Montgomery and Harris Counties that will amass 25 acres of land along Spring Creek for a bi-county nature trail system.

Kayak and canoe launches, a nature center and scenic trails are all being considered for Creekside Park. Similar to all the other villages of The Woodlands, the Village of Creekside Park will include a wide variety of home styles and price ranges, village center shopping, new schools that are part of the Tomball Independent School District, religious congregations and all the other conveniences that make village life so appealing.

Creekside

Currently in development, the 8th Village of The Woodlands will encompass over 3000 acres with a dedicated 1700 acres in park lands. Bordering the banks of Spring Creek for 7 miles, it will be home to a proposed 25 mile trail and park system; including canoeing, hiking, kayaking, botanical gardens and a nature center. Expected to be completed around 2011, this Village will be home to over 6000 residents.

Harper’s Landing

Centered around Montgomery College, the University Center and the new Woodlands College Park High School, the Village of College Park gives The Woodlands the added distinction of being a " college town". College Park is also home to St. Luke's Community Medical Center-The Woodlands.

Retail centers along College Park Drive complement the acedemic environment, with restaurants, coffee shops, fast food and bookstores. Also located in College Park are Windsor Hills and Windor Lakes active adult communities for those over the age of 55. Harpers Landing, a large family neighborhood, is part of College Park, and features a village park with swimming pool, water fun park, playgrounds and playfields.

Village facts

This Village was aptly named after the 2 prominent education centers of The Woodlands; Montgomery County College and The University Center. In cooperation with 6 major Texas Universities, residents have the opportunity to earn a bachelors or master degree with out leaving home. The opening of this Village in the late 1990’s reinforced The Woodlands reputation for a community known for its diversity and a center for higher education. This Village is home to 2 main communities, Windsor Hills and Harpers Landing and is home to nearly 2500 permanent residents and over 900 homes.

The Village of Indian Springs

Rolling topography and forested terrain characterize the Village of Indian Springs, known for its peaceful, secluded setting.

Larger parks include Forestgate and Falconwing Parks, both with swimming pools and water parks.

The renowned John Cooper School, a private college preparatory academy for students in grades K-12, is located in Indian Springs. Interfaith Child Development Center, one of the largest pre-school/child care centers, is also in this village.

Indian Springs Village Center includes an HEB grocery store, several restaurants like Mi Luna, a Tapas restaurant, and Sakekawa Japanese Steakhouse & Sushi, plus a host of neighborhood and professional services.

Village facts

The Village of Indian Springs gets its unique name from a discovery of Indian artifacts. The Bidai tribe of the Atakapan Indians roamed across most of the land now known as Montgomery County in the early 18th century. By 1850, no trace of this tribe remained until the artifacts were unearthed in 1984. Now this secluded Village houses over 6,000 residents and nearly 2100 homes.

The Village of Sterling Ridge

The Village of Sterling Ridge is the newest residential area of The Woodlands, encompassing new homes in a wide range of styles and price ranges and a host of recreation and neighborhood conveniences for its residents:

New Homes – Homebuilding is underway in many neighborhoods in the western area of Sterling Ridge known as Terramont, including homes surrounding the Gary Player Signature golf course.

Parks – The larger parks in Sterling Ridge are also among the newest, including Cranebrook Park, Terramont Park, Carlton Woods Park and Artist Grove Park. With features like the water fun park at Cranebrook; Frisbee golf, skateboarding and ‘bark’ park at Terramont Park and pond and pop fountains at Carlton Woods, Sterling Ridge is a great place to enjoy the outdoors with the whole family.

Village facts

In 1999, The Woodlands was enjoying its 25th Anniversary, so this Village was named “Sterling Ridge” in honor of the occasion. Home to the Gary Player Golf Course, and bordering the Carlton Woods Country Club, this growing Village is home to just over 2600 Residents and 900 homes.
